Backstory
The city of Ashton was founded by a band of nomads who had found a place of land they could call their own. The land offered plenty of good farm land, game, and plentiful resources. They set up farms and slowly the land became covered in crops. As time passed people came to the small hamlet and made their home in the area. As the town grew more populated they decided to set up a small town. The town quickly grew in size and they had to expand the town. The area became a small hub in the east. It became a major trading point in the east and kept growing as the years passed. Centuries after Ashton’s founding it was the biggest trading hub in the east. From a nomadic tribe, it became a large city. With the city expansion and trading hub in the city, many thieves decided to come to city in order to make a profit. The number of thieves soon became a problem and so the thieves in the area, set up a guild in order to easily coordinate stealing, assassination, and various other deeds.
The center of power that the city possesses is the set descendants of the original nomads. The three families each control a different portion of the city, the Oaklords, Windsailors, and Taletreaders. Each of the families holds a specific job in the city. The Oaklords are in charge of the well-being of the people. The Windsailors are in charge of the coastal trade. The Taletreaders run the political stances with other cities. The three families have kept peace within Ashton since its founding. The heads of each family are Darius Oaklord, Viktor Windsailor, and Jayce Taletreader. Darius runs the town guards and will make laws for the citizens and request help from adventures should there be too much on his plate to handle. Viktor Windsailor handles the shipments leaving and entering the port. Jayce Taletreader is the diplomat for the cities, if a visiting noble is in town then he ensures they have a safe stay, and deals with whatever business he has.
The tribes that had originally come to settle brought with them two gods. The god of order Karak, and the god of good Ashur. The two gods are brothers and enemies with how they go about what they do. The gods have stayed with the city and aren’t well known in other places of the world because of this the gods have limited influence and power in other parts of the world.
Gods
Karak, the god of order, is Lawful evil. He is known as the Lion. Karak promotes order though violence and tyranny. The Domains he’s associated with are War, Destruction, and Evil. His favored weapon is a greatsword.
Ashur, the god of protection, is lawful good. His symbol is the mountain. Ashur preaches protecting those who can’t defend themselves, and understanding. The Domains he is associated with are War, Good, Protection, and Healing. His favored weapon is a Bastard Sword.
